Advice on Kingston upon Thames

We’ve decided to move out of central London and have settled on Kingston upon Thames.

We’ve visited a few times and really like the area. I am keen on Berrylands/Surbiton but my DP would prefer to live closer to Kingston centre.

We’ve already lost one house I loved because of his uncertainty on not living central. I think the houses are far nicer further away from the centre and see no advantage to living close to the centre.

Any advice on the area would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thanks all we are going out today to have a wander around a few places today. It’s hard to get a real feel of places nowadays but we’re hoping we will get a little insight. Some of your suggestions I know I’d be happy with living there.

@JoJoSM2 he has had counselling, but not recently. He lost both his parents at 18 so I understand that this is hard and will be stirring up a lot of emotion. I don’t think covid has helped as it’s been rough on lots of people’s mental health. I may gently suggest he goes back as these past few days it’s been painfully obvious that he is struggling with leaving. Something which pre-covid he wanted.

I’ve said let’s stay more central and he’s much happier with that so thanks all for helping us see the bigger picture. I think we both thought nice big garden meant further out but we have both agreed we don’t need a huge garden, just somewhere we could bbq and have space for a slide and a swing.

I am a other new malden fan. We moved from London London and the diversity feels Familiar. Lots of great schools and sense of community. More and more city dwellers moving here.

Hi all, didn’t want to not come back after all your help.

We are staying where we are for now. My job has had me in Cambridgeshire for the past year on and off and I’ve been asked to carry on for another year. Should be ending my contract this month. It would be impractical to move out of London when I’m regularly travelling and staying Cambridge way.

We’ve decided that going forward shorter distance to work is what we will appreciate more in family life. The commute took over an hour to Kingston when we tried it one day in rush hour and I don’t want to make my DP do this when we can stay where we are and be happy. A garden although lovely isn’t worth less time with him.

We think we will move to zone 3 along the Piccadilly or district line when the time comes.

Thanks for all your help and advice it has really helped us not make a mistake rushing into a move! Wine
