Are stainless steel splashbacks in the kitchen a bad idea? Do they always look mucky?

Had something similar in last house we lived in. It was fine - just a couple of sprays of glass cleaner and wipe off with kitchen roll got it clean again - no reason not to get one as far as i know!

I had these in my last house (with the oak ulrisdaal kitchen)

A tiny amount of baby oil on a bit of kitchen roll and they were clean for the week. Really really practical and made the kitchen look 'finished'
