Talk to me about flat roof lights vs lanterns

We are having an extension and our architect has design a roof light of 4mx1m which is aligned to our bifolds which will be 4m.

We are deciding wether we should go with flat roof light or lantern. We also have the option of having it as 3mx1m

Any pros or cons to both?

I’ve read that lanterns are able to project light around the room due to angles? I quite like that as we will have darker corners.

Thanks

My bugbear with lanterns is that the top of them can end up outside your bedroom window which I’d find a bit annoying when looking out.

Same!! I’ve heard of potential issues with flat ones having more leaks.

Although I don’t spend hours looking out of the bedroom windows....mmm

My late FiL was in charge of Council House maintenance. One of his oft repeated mantras was "There's no such thing as a watertight flat roof".

I don't have any experience of the flat ones, but just wanted to add that my mum has a lantern one and it is gorgeous! Her kitchen is sooooo much lighter now Smile

Just had lanterns installed. They look fabulous

Thank you. By flat roof light I did mean flat roof glass. I think it’s at a slight angle. The lanterns are lovely :)
