Please help me work out what these kitchen worktops are!

Wise mumsnetters - please help!

We are having our kitchen done at the moment and I have been back and forth about a hundred times on worktops. Now, I think I have found the worktops of my dreams. Matte black, quite thin. Except I have no idea what material is in these photos! The photos themselves are both from Dutch/Norwegian websites and google translate hasn’t helped to shed any light on it. So, do any of you know? Any ideas to point me in the right direction? Any suggestions as to what material could achieve this sort of look?

Really grateful for any ideas :)

Looks like it might be compact laminate.

Looks like compact laminate. Word of warning, we almost got compact laminate until our kitchen fitter told us he hates the stuff and worktop places cant shift it. Looks lovely but it has a tendency to warp and chip. After some research I found a lot of people who complain about the stuff.

Ah, I’ve never heard of it, thank you. It’s probably really snobby but I don’t really like the idea of laminate. Any ideas of something that could be similar?

Could be Dekton, you can get that very thin. Surprisingly expensive though.

Bluntness100 · 01/09/2020 13:04

I thought it was matt granite.

Also, Matt black will look horrendous and show every crumb, smear and fingerprint.

I don’t think it does. I know my fitter when he was putting in our granite work tops commented he had recently installed some matt black ones which he thought were going to be a terrible mistake but he was surprised and both how fantastic they looked and how they didn’t show up their finger prints etc.

Sorry should say if it’s laminate then yes it would mark, but the matt granite I don’t think does.

Op look a matt/Honed/suede granite in pure black. I suspect it’s what you’re looking for.

Bluntness100 · 01/09/2020 13:12

Sorry, also black slate work tops, they are similar.

Something like this?

Black corian would give you the matt look and can do it fairly thin.
We used to have plain white corian worktops and they were surprisingly easy to look after... Any stains came off with a bit of Barkeeper's Friend

Thank you all for your suggestions, I’ll look into the suede granite, ceramic and corian surfaces. This has been so helpful!
