Looking for advice on good bits/bad bits etc

Buckhurst Hill is very nice - quiet, leafy
get less for your money than in other parts of Essex (ie Loughton/Woodford)
it has a reasonable high street - mainly independent retailers (parking can be tricky)
it has a Waitrose
it has a tube station which is very handy

TheBlonde · 06/10/2007 12:20

Thanks, we need to be near tube

Never heard of it - where is it (nosey emoticon) ?

RubyShivers · 12/10/2007 19:33

i must be the only one who lives near it!
my SIL lives in Buckhurst Hill and she loves it

do you want to be there specifically or any other surrounding parts ... Loughton is nicer (IMHO ) and property is a little cheaper

it also has tube station

TheBlonde · 12/10/2007 19:33

Hi WB! How you doing? Your kitchen okay?

It is in Essex
Still on the central line

Off to look at a couple of houses there tomorrow

OP posts:
RubyShivers · 12/10/2007 19:34

nothing wrong with essex - come over to the dark side

mwhahahahaha!

TheBlonde · 12/10/2007 19:35

Hi Ruby

We will be looking at Loughton too I think

Bit scared as there don't seem to be any Starbucks in the area

wheelybug · 12/10/2007 19:35

We are moving back into the kitchen this weekend !!!! Hurrah !!!!!

Have a nice househunt - bit of a move in direction for you ? You should come this way (no tube but v. efficient overland !)

RubyShivers · 12/10/2007 19:36

there is a starbucks in loughton

RubyShivers · 12/10/2007 19:37

hope the house hunting goes well BTW

TheBlonde · 12/10/2007 19:37

My folks are in Cambridge so they are pushing for us to move NE really

DH is working in Canary Wharf and wants a short commute (if possible)

OP posts:
TheBlonde · 12/10/2007 19:37

Ruby - does everyone drive everywhere? or do people walk?

OP posts:
wheelybug · 12/10/2007 19:38

oh fair enough - Canary Wharf a PITA from here and good to be nearer parents if they are useful !!

RubyShivers · 12/10/2007 19:39

drive mainly
there is good parking in Loughton (and an M & S Simply Food)

it is about a 10 min drive between loughton and Buckhurst hill

if you go the other direction you can be in Epping in 15 mins

great transport links from BH and Loughton to M25 and M11

My DH used to work in Canary Wharf and commute was good - abot 45 mins or less

TheBlonde · 12/10/2007 19:43

Feeling scared now... here I have M&S Food, Waitrose, Starbucks, numerous bars and restaurants, Boots, Sains, Woolies, 2 Delis, Organic Supermarket all within 5 min walk...

I might have to learn how to parallel park the car

OP posts:
RubyShivers · 12/10/2007 19:46

don't be scared - Loughton has a cook, M & S, sainsbury's , pizza express, zizi, loch fyne, boots, a divine shoe shop and loads of other shops/chains

Buckhurst Hill - less chainy high street but nice shops

when you go to look at the houses, drive down both high streets

wouldn't worry about parking - no-one else does

GibbonInARibbon · 12/10/2007 19:49

I love Buchurst Hill - v pricey in parts and as Ruby said you will get more for your money in Loughton/Woodford.

TheBlonde · 12/10/2007 21:52

I will let you know how I find it!

henrybaba · 12/10/2007 22:09

We moved to Loughton about a year ago (DS was 8 weeks old at the time). Really glad we made the move.
Lots of young families, lots to do within walking distance, Epping Forest on the doorstep, oodles of places to have coffee and at various prices et. My DH works at Canary Wharf and the commute is fine - door to door in 45 mins.

Happy to answer any Qs about Loughton you may have. There are a couple mumsnetters in Loughton... Good luck!

bookwormmum · 12/10/2007 22:19

I live about 15 mins drive from Buckhurst Hill/Loughton. It's a nice area - you're still on TfL (just) so you can use Oystercards for cheaper travel but you have the benefits of living almost in the countryside. There's been a few new car dealerships opening up in Debden (which is about 2 miles away) so they must think that the area is on the up .

TheBlonde · 14/10/2007 11:19

Buckhurst Hill was quieter than I expected
Loughton High St was alright, managed to find Pizza Express

Not sure we are ready to swap London for the suburbs yet though

OP posts:
RubyShivers · 14/10/2007 11:23

it is a big change I suppose if you are in London currently
from Loughton we can be in central London in 40 mins (best of both worlds really)
