How to find a reputable mortgage broker?

I'm interested in one to whom I pay a fixed sum, rather than one of the free services where inevitably they are going to favour the mortgage providers they'll get better commission from.

It's for a BTL.

I'm happy to stand corrected if this is not how it works!

SW London

Thanks

I have used Knight Frank financial guys. You pay them a fixed sum. They are very professional and good

I’ve always used L&C. I don’t think they are guided by the fee they receive. On one occasion they found me a mortgage but advised me to take it out without going through them as it would be cheaper not to.

Many years ago I worked for John Charcol. I hope they are as ethical and conscientious as they were back then.

London and Country good imo even though a free service. Invaluable when I needed a mortgage when on mat leave

Do you need a broker? I have always used one, but each time I could have found just as good a deal by myself online. One was even with my bank. Not sure I will bother next time.

L&C are shit.
I would recommend my broker, who sorted out the mess L&C made of my mortgage application (I've a complaint with the ombudsman and hopefully will recover the £3k or so in legal fees it took to sort it out) but he's swamped at the moment.
I will always pay for advice from now on, you get better service and a better rate/deal too.
If you don't believe me do both and see who gets you the best deal.

Thanks for all the tips.

Is it even possible to have face-to-face appointments these days? Is L&C online only?

We used Paul Ridgeway @ AMW Finance, he and they were brilliant. £500 fee iirc and was worth every penny. All online and by phone as located elsewhere in UK from me. Two of my siblings had used him for their own purchases previously and had recommended him.

Happy to recommend our broker, who we've used for 2 purchases and several remortgages (inc. a let-to-buy). I was actually recommended him by someone on here years ago. He's fixed fee and has absolutely earned that fee in spades.

Pm me if you want his info...

My brother is a mortgage broker, just managed to get me a fantastic deal on a new mortgage within a day. His is a fixed fee. Happy to send you the details if you'd like.
