Is York a good place to live? Particularly for schools

Hi.

I feel like I need to relocate. From what I can gather from researching is that North Yorkshire is quite a good place to live, low crime rates etc.
Can anyone comment on this? Is it a nice place to raise young girls? Are the schools good?
