Cheap sofas? Where to buy without looking like student accommodation

I'm about to commence a 12 month rental. I would really like to leave behind my rather old sofa set and get a new one but I don't want to spend £££ when I know I'm only in the new property for 12 months before hopefully I will buy somewhere and invest in actual long lasting furniture.

Does anyone know of any good websites or places to go for a sofa set 3 and 2 seater that will look ok. Happy for second hand but the really nice stuffs still fairly expensive or I can't find a 3+2. Cheap and cheerful really to last 12 months but not look so obviously cheap it's embarrassing, I'm saving the super fall apart in a year stuff for the bedroom furniture safely tucked away from any guests Grin

You should find a man with a van on local FB too.

Why not buy something decent but flexible (ie two 2 seater sofas) which you can use wherever you live?
I do agree with looking on FB or Gumtree or charity shops. IKEA is also good as you can replace the covers on them so that way they can last a long time (check out Bemz and Coverworks).

If you join Facebook search 'ex display sofas' or 'clearance sofas', there are several selling ex display sofas really cheaply.
If you are in the northwest check out Alexs sofas and three piece suites near Bolton. Lots of cheap ex display and cancelled orders.

I'm just about to get rid of our 3 and 2 seaters in time for a new corner to arrive. If you're near the Worcester area!

Thanks everyone so very helpful. I didn't even know you can hire van men haha I am getting removal men for the actual move though. I feel enlightened about all of this new stuff today Smile

My current sofa is a huge corner one and I'm looking for a smaller set of maybe 3+2 due to the changed layout in next property. I really don't want to lug old sofa that was clearly bought straight after having a baby and is soooo worn where I should have been down the gym instead of sat watching tv for years

Check your local paper small ads too ... we got a 3 and a 2 seater in leather for 100 quid, and a 2 seater with recliner seats for £50! Both in perfect condition.

You've had your sofa for 7 years and will move somewhere else in 12 months?

My sofa is 10 years old - wouldn't dream of changing it on a whim like that!
