Anyone from there? We're looking to buy there. What's the nice parts, which parts to avoid?

We've got 1 DS & TTC our 2nd, live in a 3 bed now but further south, would like to upsize you a 5 bed. Any advice would be appreciated.

What’s on your wishlist, OP?
@mrsmummy1111 no issues with that at all. I wouldn't pay more than 590-600 for it though, there is a lot of things missing for me personally land I know I'd outgrow this home within 5 years but that's fine. If there is people willing to pay more than that, I haven't lost anything and they've won the home they want. X
That's the perfect way of looking at it. A house, after all, is only worth what you're willing to pay for it. I agree it's slightly overpriced as realistically everyone wants open plan these days. A small kitchen like that wouldn't suit many people. However, knowing the area very well there's almost no chance you'd get a large chalet for close to 600k at the moment. Maybe a year ago, but not now. Annoyingly it doesn't have the sqft listed though. Best of luck with your search regardless!

I would want 2 bathrooms upstairs, and that house to me is not a 5 bed. More like a 3 bed. I would want the kids playroom downstairs which it would be for this house but they see this as a bedroom. To me, a bedroom is never downstairs, it's always a study or playroom This is all very personal. I would love 3 double sized bedrooms upstairs, happy for two smaller rooms as study and spare bedroom upstairs as well.

Again, budget is up to 800k but there is no rush for us, we live in a 3 bed now but I do want a bigger house, so I'm waiting for the right house to come but again, I'm also happy to move into something that isn't quite that and move again in 5 years time.

Maybe I'm a complete dreamer and will have to move to the country to get the house I want x

Would you consider other areas, or do you want to stay in/around Bromley?

I absolutely couldn't agree more. A room downstairs is NEVER a bedroom and it's a real pet hate for me when estate agents market it as such.

You will find what you're looking for, just depends on your style and whether you're willing to do much work to it.

We have just completed on a 5 bed detached (but barely) in hayes with a big master bedroom with en suite on 3rd floor, and separate family bathroom on 2nd floor along with 3 double rooms and one box (and I really do mean box) room. It needs a hell of a lot of work and walls knocking down etc, and set us back almost 900k. So yes you get it in your budget but you'll likely need to do a bit of work.

I can’t see you getting a house like that for that budget in Petts Wood or Chislehurst TBH
JoJoSM2 · 12/08/2020 17:12

I’d imagine that it should be quite easily doable if you look more in the borough of Bexley as it’s cheaper than the borough of Bromley. You could look in the south of the borough of Croydon, places like Sanderstead, Purley or Coulsdon. I’m in the borough of Sutton and you could tick your boxes here too.

I have to agree with @TheChineseChicken - you won't find that in Bromley or Chislehurst for 800k, unless you find somewhere that needs a LOT of work. Sidcup / new Eltham maybe

Chislehurst is lovely (I can't wait to get back there, stuck in Norfolk at present - a good place but not home), parts of Bromley are quite fashionable at the moment (Chatterton Village being one); Beckenham is nice as long as not close to Anerley or Elmers End. I'd avoid Orpington.
