Which kitchen style do you prefer? Scandi vs traditional

Which of these two kitchen styles do you prefer?

Option 1: A simple, minimalist, natural wood, scandi style:

Or

Option B: the more traditional, in-frame one below - more colourful though still fairly rustic/plain:

Or, if you hate both, please tell me why and which other style is your favourite!

Thank you. Just asking out of interest really. I like both styles and am currently designing a kitchen.

Agree with pp, those are not Scandi-style. I'm Scandi Smile.

I'm loving how the kitchen replies get a little more cutthroat at night!

And even a little political Grin how does one define the national aesthetic of a kitchen in the age of the transnational? Is the smell of food inherently bourgeoise?

Haha yes the lady in the Huguenot house does look pretty miserable! It is not fashionable to smile for photos.

Nonetheless I have enjoyed the debate between ugly-raw-pseudo-scandi-70s and drab-conservative-overpriced-devol ... Grin

If money were no object, really I'd get a bulthaup B2 workbench kitchen ... Unforgiving and German

Ultimately it's your house right now, so I'd vote for you to choose what style suits you and your taste. Anyone else can cope with that until they choose to update it when they get fed up with it.

I'm not a huge fan of anything you've shown so far. But the "Scandi" kitchens in particular seem like they're trying too hard to be trendy. Tbh anything on an interior design website is so not me iyswim. My home is for me, not for instagram.

Also I would insist on top cupboards, not shelves or hooks. One, dust is the bane of my life. Two, I think pests are much less likely to get to food in top cupboards.

Judging by the estate agent photos sent to me by a Swedish friend who was buying a flat in Stockholm, ‘Scandi style’ is white, black and grey, no colour anywhere, except maybe the odd green plant. Not even wood-colour.
Cold and horrible.

Out of all the flat particulars she sent me, at least 6, only one had a little bit of colour anywhere.
Pleased to say that her own flat, now it’s done up, is nothing like those bleak horrors.

Are kitchens not supposed to smell of food, then? Or are they just for show?

No, nobody wants to be reminded of yesterday's lunch via smell when they entering a room. Especially as a guest 😂.

I always have a window open in the kitchen after preparing meals.
