Hi, I want to relocate from London to be nearer to my family who live in Reading and hopefully reduce my mortgage a little for a better quality of life. What’s Hungerford like as an area to live? I’m a single woman in my late 30s

It's quite nice. Full of slightly overpriced antique shops, but pretty. The centre is a bit of a rat run for some surrounding towns and villages to get to the M4/A34 though, so you'd need to think about where in town you want to be. You have lovely market towns like Marlborough and Devizes a short drive away, larger towns like Swindon for bigger shopping expeditions etc. And it's a lovely part of the world. There are certainly worse places to live!

I have friends there who love it. I’ve no idea how you would get on as a 30 plus, but it’s got everything most people want. My friends brought up their children there and it suited them.

Hungerford is lovely!

Newbury is also nice, and Lambourne or Marlborough

it's quite a picturesque town, I've only visited but thought it was mainly a well-to-do older demographic, very quiet.

I would look at what you actually want from where you live. It’s quieter than Reading. It’s very attractive but what do you want from where you live? Country walks? Small supermarket? Local shops? Pubs? What would you do in your spare time and how would you meet other people?
