Sorry if this is the wrong subsection, not sure where to ask about sofa woes. We bought two John Lewis Arlo sofas in Feb 2018. We don't eat on them or do anything filthy so other than an occasional dust and vacuum they haven't been cleaned.

I noticed one seat was looking a tiny bit grubby so wiped it with a damp cloth - honestly quite gentle, not scrubbing, just water. The colour came off onto the cloth! It has dried to a light patch (see photo).

Can I fix this or do I need a professional? Also, how should I clean it in future if a damp cloth is clearly not the way to go? I'm pretty sure there was nothing on the instructions.

(I'm waiting for a call back from JL furniture dept but they said it will probably be next week).

I feel its one for JL to sort, Google car leather restoration people plenty about who can re dye it.
I feel its faulty, we have had leather for 20 odd years first was cream with two kids and two dogs cleaned it on a regular basis never had colour come out f that one or the current black one, I suspect its faulty.
I use Autosmart G101 then Autosmart hide food, the G101 isn't for leather but it works very well on most things but you have to Dilute it well. Local Car valeter put me on to it

Of course, very easy to fix, many products available from furniture clinic from simple balms to dyes, will take you a few mins.

Thanks both. I've emailed JL with the details, so we'll see what they say. I looked at the Furniture Clinic items and they seem promising, but there isn't an exact colour match as it's a weird mushroomy colour between brown and grey. I will contact them if JL can't sort out and see if they might suggest a colour mix.
