Who is responsible for this fence?

Terrace of three houses, with a shared back fence. It backs straight on to the gardens behind. The posts are on my side. It's now beginning to fall apart. Who's responsibility is it?

Probably yours as the posts are on your side but you will have to look on the land registry.

Apparently the fences with an inverted T belong to me. Bugger. Looks like it's my job then.

To be fair, it's only your job if you want it. There is no actual rules say there has to be a fence, only a clearly marked border. If a neighbour needs to keep their dog in their garden, for example, they can erect a fence of their own.

I'll see if I can find out if the house behind is rented or owner occupied. I suspect it's a student house. Most are round here. My ex landlady replaced both sides of the fence about 8 years ago as they were completely broken down. Might see if next door want to get their broken bit of our shared boundary fence replacing as well.
