Deadend Hallway

Once we complete our building works (moved stairs & reconfigured layout) we will have a downstairs hallway that is effectively a deadend. The stairs turn 90 degrees and the 'cupboard under the stairs' is just on the first part as we didn't want a cupboard that had an awkward turn in it (although we could change this but would rather not). The door into the rest of the house is where the stairs start and we already have a downstairs loo.

Can anyone give me ideas of what we can do or post pics of what you have done with a deadend hallway. A cloakroom area isn't viable as the stairs go over that part and the door to the cupboard opens out there.

Hope this all makes sense!

We kind of had something similar in a previous house.

Love the idea of a piano or sofa.

Do you need a home office space?

Ours had floor to ceiling inbuilt mirrored cupboards so it was kind of an area where you brushed the kid's hair / checked your reflection before heading out but in ours winter hats etc were in the top cupboard and our wrapping paper was stored below.

A large plant?

Are you going to have another storage thing in the hall? Somewhere to put keys/post? If not I’d put that there.

An old fashioned telephone and telephone table, complete with little seat.

Depending on if you have coat etc storage - i would cover the who of that back wall with a mirror so cut to size - not just a big mirror ( & then either a low inch underneath or a console table . I would prioritise places to put coats and shoes though so - could still have mirror & coat hooks - shoe storage to the right hand side

All best - looks great

Coat racks and roll-out storage on rubber wheels, with matching door fronts on them as if they were giant drawers. You can have giant drawers as well, above them, on fully extendable runners like kitchen pan drawers. An experienced carpenter can build them, or you can get an installation specialist if you want to spend more. Include your filing cabinet, wine rack, boot cupboard, and safe.

Have the cavity lined with plasterboard, which is fireproof, because staircases are made of wood, and stairs are part of your escape route.

I'd have a book nook

Does it have any depth to it, or is it the under stairs door opens and rests against the wall?

No depth, the wall is next to the stairs and the cupboard under the short part of the stairs opens out against that wall.
