Nice areas to live around Leicester?

Hi Everyone,

I'm just looking to get some advice from people who are already living in/around Leicestershire on some nice places to live.

We are currently in Chesterfield as I commuted to Leeds while my partner commutes to Leicester (Chesterfield was right in the middle for us!), but now I can permanently work from home we are looking to move closer to his work as otherwise he's got a 3h round commute at peak rush hour if he's lucky.

We've been looking around areas but most of what we see are the TOP 5 PLACES TO LIVE type lists without seeing what actual residents say. Areas we've looked at are Mountsorrel, Wigston, Oadby, and Quorn. Right now we are leaning more towards Mountsorrel but without knowing anybody there it's still a bit of an unknown.

At the moment we don't have any children, but it's something we are looking at in the next couple of years so something a bit more family friendly/calmer would be excellent.

If anybody can offer any advice, it will be greatly appreciated

I'd go for Swithland, Rothley, Woodhouse eaves, Quorn; or further south the villages round Market Harborough.

Have you considered Ashby De La Zouch?

Always thought it sounds like a an interesting place name! And I only know of it because of Adrian Mole .

The Leicestershire paper thinks its a good place to live too.

Depending on which side of Leicester your husband works would depend on where I'd be looking as some times the commute across the city can be a pain if you get it wrong. Which rough area is your husband's business?

Rothley is lovely but agree about looking at where in Leicester you need to get to.

What kind of house and lifestyle are you looking for? What's your budget? What kind of things do you like doing?

There are lots of options and some beautiful areas you could consider depending on what your vision is.

Oadby is lovely! I lived in the Uni of Leicester student village there for a year. The actual Oadby village is lovely and the housing in Oadby is all lush. The area is so green and calm.

My parents live in Thurmaston. It's a decent area but not very exciting. Anywhere around Bradgate Park is nice. Oadby by and Knighton also nice. I'd avoid Wigston though.
