How easy/hard is it to lay vinyl flooring?

I'd like to replace the vinyl flooring in a small cloakroom.

How easy is it to do? What would I need?

In my (very naive) head it's just a case of pulling up the existing piece of vinyl, laying it on top of a new piece, cutting to the same size and sticking it back down (with something).

Any advice would be appreciated.

If it a regular shape it shouldn't be too tricky. Measure more than once. Cut slightly too big then you can trim the edges in situ with eg a Stanley knife. Measure again and again to make sure because once you have cut wrong you can't go back...

Very simple assuming floor is level. Get on to youtube and watch a load of videos on it and you'll see the simplicity very quickly

Can you use your existing piece as a pattern, even if you just use it to cut it our roughly? Ive been tempted to do the same (although doesn’t currently have any flooring) and will be making a pattern first. In some ways a small space is more difficult than large one, due to space restrictions.

Sorry, re read your post, and very sensibly (in my opinion) that’s what you are planning to do!

that's what my son did when we moved in here new bathroom but carpet on the floor bought vinyl slightly larger than needed and used the carpet as template then sealed round the edges with silicone

Thanks all - I'm going to give it a go - the worst that can happen is that I put the old stuff back down!

Appreciate the time taken to reply.

@RomaineCalm - see if there are Vinyl tiles as that is supposed to be easier to lay - and also easier to replace if there's an issue.
