When do you think they’ll allow house viewings again?

Am just pondering and interested in opinions, I know we can’t say for sure.

If people who can’t work from home are now actively being encouraged to go into work, does this include work being done on homes and, as an extension, house viewings?

Living with stbe in lockdown and keen to restart the ball rolling on my house hunt!

Following with interest!

fartyface · 10/05/2020 21:50

yes i bet so.

likeamother · 11/05/2020 07:20

I guess it’s the ‘crossing households’ issue. Perhaps if measures are put in place, like vendors and buyers keeping a safe distance and buyers not touching door handles etc., they might?

Only when all social distancing measures have been lifted, So 2021 I'm guessing

Greendayz · 11/05/2020 07:32

Would have thought you could view a house without going within 2m of anyone. Could use hand sanitizer, etc for door handles. It doesn't seem high risk really, compared with pubs or even food shops.

My brother is renting. He arranged with a estate agent. House is empty. Ea opened house door then sat back in car. Brother and gf viewed house. Everything after done by email. He moves in next week.
I think it depends on circumstances.
Mum is tip of the Chain. They were about to swop contracts but lock down happened.
Contracts have been signed but not dated.
Once they find someone who will move stuff , good to go.
I think there will be. A lot of virtual house tours now. We live in different times , but it can be achievable

drinkingwineoutofamug · 11/05/2020 07:40

Bloody typos sorry

romatheroamer · 11/05/2020 08:07

I'd love to know the answer because want to know when it's worth re-listing!

Eeyoresstickhouse · 11/05/2020 08:08

I am viewing a property on friday. Its empty and like poster above estate agent will wait outside.

StSaulOfSnacks · 11/05/2020 08:09

I know someone who has people viewing their house in next few days.

MaryBerrystolemyflour · 11/05/2020 08:16

Our house went on the market just before lockdown. Early on the agent tried to arrange viewings but we said no. The sign is still up outside but I can’t see me wanting people coming here regardless of the agents being able to come back to work. I want to move but there are too many unknowns with the housing market right now.

Roselilly36 · 11/05/2020 08:17

House viewings? Most people are more concerned about seeing family at the moment, when will that happen.

I know lots of us are wanting to move, me included. We have written off moving until next year at the earliest.

likeamother · 11/05/2020 08:42

@Roselilly36 it’s possible to think about and be concerned about more than one thing at a time you know Hmm

That’s great you can write off moving. Perhaps not everyone is able to do that. I’m currently living with my ex and it’s far from easy.

OP posts:
likeamother · 11/05/2020 08:45

@StSaulOfSnacks Wow that’s surprising, unless it’s empty. Positive news though.

I wonder if, generally, estate agents will be grouped with the retail allowed to reopen on 1st June. Unless something is specifically mentioned in the report today.

OP posts:
StSaulOfSnacks · 11/05/2020 08:46

It's not empty. Apparently the estate agents are working.

Noworrieshere · 11/05/2020 08:47

I would think house sales would be a big thing in getting the economy going again so I would have thought they would want to do that fairly quickly. But I have no idea when. Sorry.
Your situation sounds really hard op. I would be desperate to move too. I hope something changes for you soon

Roselilly36 · 11/05/2020 10:15

@likeamother that can’t be an easy situation for you, I hope things will get moving for us all soon.

Feelinghistoric · 11/05/2020 10:31

When I spoke to an estate agent, they thought they would be going back on Wednesday so fingers crossed that means viewings too!

DesperateElf · 11/05/2020 10:32

There is no clarity about this today but I expect house viewings with social distancing in place to resume very soon.

Feelinghistoric · 11/05/2020 10:32

And sorry about your situation OP. I don’t think some people understand that for some, the music stopped at rather an impossible time!

likeamother · 11/05/2020 11:32

Thanks everyone. It’s rubbish for a lot of people, I know. Would definitely help to have something to work towards, if possible.

@Feelinghistoric wow that’s great! Sounds like it’s partly down to the agent then. Good luck for moving forward, are you buying or selling? Or both?

OP posts:
Feelinghistoric · 11/05/2020 11:53

Both buying and selling. And moving geographically so as long as whole country house prices go up or down the same way, they don’t make much difference to me if you see what I mean?

likeamother · 11/05/2020 18:39

@Feelinghistoric yes hopefully any drop will be across the board and therefore even out. And if they announce a stamp duty holiday soon then all the better! Good luck Star

OP posts:
Feelinghistoric · 11/05/2020 19:27

Good luck to you too!

ritatherockfairy · 12/05/2020 19:35

Gosh. I’ve been wanting to move for several years and can’t wait to get our house back on the market but there’s no way I’d be allowing complete strangers in my house at the moment. I’d also be very unsure as to where house prices are headed. I can’t see many potential buyers offering pre-Covid prices with the economy potentially in meltdown.
