Will building costs rise or fall now?

We’ve got plans to build/extend that are essential as our family is too big for the space we live in.

Planning is currently waiting to be approved. Does anyone know if the on coming recession will cause building costs to rise or fall?

My husband is a builder and currently extremely difficult to get materials as a lot of the factories and suppliers are shut. Those who have materials are selling at an inflated price. He’s recently seen bags of plaster selling for £40 each Confused

They will probably rise I wouldn't start the manufacturers stocks will be exhausted soon and its been difficult to get materials

Oh dear. I had thought this might be the case.

Perhaps it will be cheaper to move instead? We'd always wanted to move, but because of house prices decided to extend instead.

Maybe house prices will drop now and it will be cheaper to move ...

Your house price goes down as well as the one you're buying...

Building is always cheaper than moving but can you achieve what you want from the house you are in already? If not then yes, move. Otherwise I'd extend.
