What are your MUST have home appliances or tech?

MrsA2017 · 09/04/2020 15:02

What appliances would you struggle to live without? Any home tech that makes life much easier? Or a home luxury that has become essential?

As an example, mine would be a Super King size bed! Maybe yours is a Pyrolytic oven? Or a clothes steamer?

Or on the other hand, any that you have found to be a waste of £?

Moving soon and wondering if there are any clever gadgets out there worth investing in! 🙂

When I moved in with DP and he had Alexa devices, I thought they were silly. Now they're my lifeline Grin especially with two 20mo children. I can turn on lights, the kettle, check the time, ask answers to obvious questions that my frazzled brain forgets the answers to, and I've recently used it to set up a lovely bedtime routine for DC including lowering the lights and playing a bedtime lullaby. So if I were to move, I'd invest in those Smile

georgialondon · 09/04/2020 15:10

Right now my Nespresso machine

mencken · 09/04/2020 17:07

washing machine
gas hob
laptop computer
landline with unlimited calls
large TV
kettle

I'm able bodied so can push buttons and switches, no need to shout at something that collects data for Amazon.

for lower waste coffee; grinder machine from ebay, Aeropress, beans for Aldi or similar.

Ferfooksek · 09/04/2020 17:18

Alexa, dishwasher, tumble dryer, Hive heating, Sky Q

SciFiScream · 09/04/2020 17:25

Dishwasher
WiFi router
Instant pot
Washing machine
Vacuum cleaner
Steam mop

Livingthecovidaloca · 09/04/2020 17:27

My cordless dyson. I know lots of people aren’t keen, but I love being able to whizz mine around a couple of times a day.

Wavey123 · 09/04/2020 18:00

Nespresso machine with Aerochino Milk frothed
Tumble dryer
Outdoor seating/sofa you can lie out on

NotMeNoNo · 09/04/2020 18:08

In a new house if you don't think you need it, don't get it just to be pointless.

I would look at: internet/cat 6 wiring

Electric car charging
Cycle secure storage
Home office/work from home set up

Flexible and future proof use of space

NotMeNoNo · 09/04/2020 18:09

Oh and sooner or later we will have to ditch gas so capacity to convert heating etc to electric or heat pumps. And good LED low energy lighting and insulation.

Happyshoes · 09/04/2020 18:13

Food Steamer, microwave, dishwasher, washer, kettle, toaster
We don't have kitchen at moment due to lockdown. Our home is totally up the wall.

MrsA2017 · 09/04/2020 19:33

A couple of times a day @Livingthecovidaloca Shock

Range oven with induction hob
Dishwasher
Pull out kitchen tap (which I don't have right now but miss from my old house)
I don't have this but want a timed front light, we can only manually put our front outside light on and off but when we do the electrics will try and look into this so when we arrive home after dark it will be on.

delilahbucket · 09/04/2020 21:19

Dishwasher
Handheld vac
Braun blender
Nest thermostat
IKEA bedding

delilahbucket · 09/04/2020 21:19

Just realised it was tech/appliances only. NOT bedding 😂

Holothane · 09/04/2020 21:32

Washing machine
Gtech
My iPad
Giant tv.

Desiringonlychild · 09/04/2020 21:36

Dishwasher, washing machine, rice cooker, computer monitor. Sofa dining bench (I use it as a sofa and also as a dining area, so I save a lot of space in my two bed flat). my desk and tiny dressing table.

Balhammom · 09/04/2020 21:36

Laptop
TV
Coffee machine
Battery powered friend ;)

Coquohvan · 09/04/2020 22:23

In no particular order I’d miss these -
Boiling water tap
Wine cooler
Dish washer
Hive
Sky Q
Cordless vacuum
Paige
Apps - start my car with an app
Built in coffee machine - app switch on
iPad
iPhone
High speed WiFi
Slow cooker
Bread maker
Rice cooker
Steam generator iron
Liber-t télépéage tags
Car reversing camera
TV remote
Motion sensor outdoor lights

Of the above growing up only had TV remote & dishwasher.

CatAndHisKit · 10/04/2020 00:36

Coffee machine! oh how I appreciate it now (used to be packed away in spare room as I'm a daily cafe goer).

penguins79 · 10/04/2020 00:42

Having a washer/dryer on the second floor. Never thought I'd appreciate it but it just makes life easier

Dual oven on the wall

My what I thought was overpriced toaster oven that I absolutely use at least 2x a day

Biggest waste of money I was talked into when we did the kitchen: hot water tap "pasta faucet" I barely use it and feel stupid every time I look at it

Peachi82 · 10/04/2020 07:40

Satellite dish for foreign TV
Love my Thermomix (living on a building site, but can still make nice and healthy meals)
I'm looking forward to a dish washer and an induction hob
Garden chairs are a must, we lived for a few years without and couldn't really make use of the outdoor space
Tumble dryer for the winter
Netflix and Prime

TDL2016 · 10/04/2020 07:44

Induction hob
Dishwasher
Washing machine with a 15 min setting
Apple Car Play in my car
Fibre Broadband.

NewCatMummy · 10/04/2020 15:31
