HELP!! Wood panels in bathroom

Hi all,

The plastic coating of my bathroom panels has come off and there is ikea type of wood inside (quiet smooth and looks like compressed wood). Parts of this panel have already started to swell. I’d like to paint over this - how can I ensure the panels are water proof?

If it has started swelling you need to replace it.

There are products such as Ronseal preservatives that I'll stop it rotting or swelling but you will need to use a coating such as a paint or varnish type coating.
