Buying our first house. What's next?!

Husband and I are well underway in buying our first home. I'm nervous and wondering if anyone else is in a similar boat. We don't have a lot of spare money but it's kind of now or never!

When we did it about 28 years ago we had £16 in the bank, second hand bed, appliances no fridge for a few months, the hoover and washing machine where broken ones we managed to fix. Dont be afraid of second hand stuff just to get you up and running its all the little bits that kill you pots and pans etc, think the cutlery came from the Car boot sale!
Look on Facebook market place, Ebay etc, furniture often goes cheaply as its not easy to move.
Just be content to have a roof over your head, get a few quid in the bank and then buy what you want

Hi OP, we're in the same position. We've decided to carry on despite CV because we were looking for about a year before we found one we liked enough to offer on. There's always a reason not to buy, and we just really want this house!

It's exciting, isn't it?!

Thankfully I am the queen of thrift, spending my time at home painting furniture we have picked up for peanuts for our children who will be getting their own rooms in our new place! We have most essential items and we know we will just have to go without or get as and when. It's a stressful time at the best of times I'm sure but right now seems out of control. We are currently living with my husbands parents and our two young children, this isolation time is highlighting all my worries 😬

Really exciting after 10+ years in a rental! I'm 50% excited 50% terrified! Also keep thinking about all the wallpaper stripping we could be doing if we were in already!

We are ftb going through the process with a help to buy new build. It was surveyed on Monday and mortgage offer came through Wednesday. We are at a time where we need to do this now whilst we have jobs and age on our side even though it's rubbish timing. Fingers crossed it all goes through...

Make sure you use a steamer stripping wallpaper op! We had one long weekend doing it by hand and made almost no progress. Good luck, it'll be great to be in your own place!

We also got our mortgage offer through a few weeks ago. Literally the day the BOE dropped interest rates. Was a bit disappointed initially that we could have gotten an even cheaper mortgage, but with the news yesterday that Halifax and Barclays have pulled their mortgages for high LTV altogether, I'm very relieved!

Hopefully they won't start withdrawing mortgage offers too. Our house is still being built, so won't be ready until May, provided the builders are still able to work. So we have a few months of crossed fingers ahead! (It's a family builder, so they're still working, unlike the big developers)

Hope it's a smooth process for everyone else, even if things do slow down a bit
