Green staining coming from shower. Shower or plumbers fault.

It looks like there is rust between the shower and tiles. The green won't come off 😭 Is this a fault of the plumber or the shower? The bathroom was new in September 2019.

Is that from a copper pipe?
Might be a faulty shower if it doesn’t fit flush.

LetItGoHome · 08/03/2020 18:34

It's a textured tile if that makes any difference. Should sealer have been used?

That looks like a run from a cleaning product that hasn't been rinsed off, have you used a limescale cleaning on it? Rust would be orange/Brown

That's interesting OtherVoicesOtherRooms Do you think the pipe could be leaking, or water getting behind and causing the corrosion. All the pipe work was new in September.

user246854 I have only ever used daily shower spray on it which is designed to be non wash off. But your right it's not rust. Looks like it's from copper.

Are you sure it's not shower gel or shampoo if not a cleaning product?

I agree, it doesn't look like rust.

LetItGoHome · 08/03/2020 19:06

MrsJoshNavidi it's coming from the shower fitting. It has stained the ceramic tile. Thee green won't come off. Definitely not shampoo/gel. There was nothing soapy on the tiles when I first noticed it, just the stain.

Can you see behind the shower (airing cupboard?) we have many copper pipes behind there.Could be a leaking join?

LetItGoHome · 08/03/2020 19:25

No, pipes are behind the tiles in the wall 😟

Also, try a mould and mildew remover spray.

OtherVoicesOtherRooms · 08/03/2020 19:26

Oh, that's annoying.

LetItGoHome · 08/03/2020 19:26

No sign of damp/water staining the other side of the wall.

I will get the plumber back in. Just want to be armed with knowledge. I suppose I'd like to know if it is a fitting issue. If so I will insist he fixes it as it's only been in 6 months. It's all new from scratch, including all pipe work. It used to be the box room x

Try scrubbing the marks with salt and lemon juice mixed together - use a toothbrush or nylon scrubber.

ImTheCaddy · 08/03/2020 22:52

I have the exact same thing! I got it off with viakal in the end.

It's back though and green again so I'm going to have to get the plumber back.

Muchlywrong · 09/03/2020 02:17

It is very likely to be a fitting issue. Your plumber should come and cover a job like this for a year, so I would get them out to look at it. The most likely explanation is that on the connection from the copper pipe to the shower adaptor, it is not quite tightened up correctly. Another option, could be that the connection from the shower adapter to the shower is either missing the rubber washer, or is again, not quite tightened up. The final most obvious option, is that your shower does have a fault. It is still worth getting the plumber out to check though.
You very definitely shouldn't be having this happen to you though, especially after 6 months.

MarieG10 · 09/03/2020 05:44

The shower is not fitted properly. It should not have anything leaking out from behind the mixer and it clearly is just from the brown underneath. So either the connectors are leaking or more likely water getting in.

The grouting below is also stained. If that's what it looks like after 6 months I would be fuming. However, the grouting May be because you are not using a proper cleaning product, only a daily spray

Oblomov20 · 09/03/2020 06:35

Marie what should she be using on the grouting?

LetItGoHome · 09/03/2020 07:04

Wonderful, thanks Muchlywrong and MarieG10 👍😃

The stained grout is just wet. My kids had been in the bath and the grout looks darker where wet. BUT i have just been to check and there are still wet areas and I can see a small glistening trickle of water coming from behind the mixer. I hadn't noticed this before as everything was wet. I will definitely WhatsApp the plumber the photos this morning.
