Vendor's behaviour during viewing...
PinkMartini · 03/09/2007 18:29
If you worked from home and were selling your house, what would you do during a viewing?
Would you stay working at your desk?
If you were a buyer, would it bother you that the vendor was there (working) but not showing you around? This is what I'm doing. Don't like to interfere and frankly, wtf am I paying the estate agent for?
Just interested in your opinions
Thanks

I tried to go out whenever possible, tbh. Buyers prefer it, I think. Otherwise I tried to keep a low profile in the study, but I think it does make buyers less relaxed and less likely to have a proper good look.
We never had to show viewers around, and we had load of viewings (house on busy road, so hard to sell). It's the agent's job. Why keep a dog and bark yourself?

Would stay at my desk and carry on working. Maybe look up and say Hi at the appropriate moment.
When I sold my house earlier this year the estate agent did all viewings at our request. I was at home all the time though with 3 month old DD, and this didn't seem to bother the buyer.

If the estate agent were there showing me round, I wouldn't be bothered about the vendor staying working at their desk. Actually, I probably wouldn't want them following me around. However I would appreciate them being available for five minutes or so at the end of the tour if there were any questions the agent couldn't answer.

We made a point of being at home and one of us always did the walk through with the estate agent...they seemed to be such idiots about talking up the house. Of course in our case, it was a large luxury that we had renovated ourselves (I'm and architect and dh was a builder) so we really knew how to talk the house up. However, having said that, most of the time when we viewed houses, it woudl have been useful not to have the vendors around as they usually went on and on about irrelevant bits of the house.
