Bold but classy living room ideas

sirmione16 · 01/02/2020 12:36

Moving out from exP and the prospect of decorating my own place in just the way I want is so exciting! And the living room is my first project. It's not a huge space, but I want it to be all of the following and I'm struggling for inspiration or if it even can be achieved.... My key words are:

  • bold - unique - classy - elegant - modern - interesting.

I don't want to simply have a brightly coloured sofa or accent chair, I want more but not sure what it is yet! Anyone seen anything they think would fit? Open to all colours and themes - go wild! I'm also open to painting furniture or using furniture in different ways.

Report your own post and ask it to be moved to the DIY section

Though given your reasons for being able to redecorate it isn't in that wrong a forum

I expected a thread about interesting positions to try on the sofa, hearth rug or coffee table.

Try the Home decoration thread.

Hello, @sirmione16. No worries about putting this in the wrong topic - it's easily done.

We've moved it over now - best of luck with your new home. Flowers

Have you tried Houzz for inspiration? It’s got thousands of photos.

BitOfFun · 01/02/2020 17:39

I've just ordered this wallpaper for our hall, stairs and landing.

I love a bit of drama, and for £10 a roll, you are getting a lot of impact for your money! It has been delivered and I have opened one; the quality is excellent.

I wish I had a space to try the combination I have seen a lot on Pinterest and Houzz. Navy wall, marble side/coffe table and gold fixtures and bits to bring the look together. Lovely combination.

BitOfFun most wallpapers I click on, on mumsnet are meh and blah. But your choice is fabulous. I love it.

I've also never been to that website so will now explore, thanks.

Thanks all! Never heard of houzz so off to have a search

Go to Pinterest. Loads of ideas there. And Houzz is another good one

BubblesBuddy · 01/02/2020 21:27

Clarke and Clarke have Emma Shipley designs if you want something different and stunning. Also look at Designers Guild for inspiration.

BitOfFun · 01/02/2020 21:48

I feel really chuffed now, flirtygirl- you can come round as soon as it's done Grin.

Depending on your budget, my favourite wallpapers are Cole & Son. You can order through JL, they've got some wonderfully different designs (my drawing room currently has a lovely feature wall with monkeys on)! I always think with reception rooms the most important thing is to have a central point - no matter your style/taste. For my lounge it's very much centred around a large Edwardian fireplace, my drawing room is more centred around my chesterfields for example. I also like picking up unique furniture (sometimes that does come in the form of a statement chair though - sorry) and I always opt for 'quirky' as a decor choice. I've not mastered minimalism personally.

Consider painting your ceiling - have seen gold and light aqua ceilings just recently, and they were fabulous.
