Neighbour ripped down fence

Hey everyone

My neighbour has ripped down the fence between us and only half redone it. Leaving a big gap which my dogs can get thru which leads to a main road. It has been left like this for nearly 2 weeks now. I'm thinking the house has been bought by new owners as there is never anyone in it so we cant go to the door and ask what's going on.

What can I do about this as they never asked us if the y could rip down the fence. When the guy was putting it up he has also cut down and wrecked some of a tree which is in our property and dug holes in our property which we had no warning about. My husband only seen this when he went up to get one of the dogs back as they went thru the fence.

Who owned the fence?

Who is responsible for maintaining that boundary - anything on your deeds?

I think as dog owners, it is your responsibility to keep them contained within your property.

If the fence belonged to your neighbour, they're entirely within their rights to remove it. It's up to you to put in a fence to control your dog.

When I posted I did post think it was posting to hone and garden but obviously have made a mistake.

Have you put a letter through their door? Did you not see them take the fence down/dig holes/cut the trees?
If they are new owners they may not realise the fence is yours - it can be ambiguous on the deeds.
Yes they should have spoken to you before doing anything, even if it was their fence then as a courtesy, but you now need to contact them about it.
Was there an estate agent sign up? Did you know the previous owners?
You need to secure your garden to prevent your dogs getting out but also write a letter explaining that the fence is yours and you need to speak to them about what plans they have. Keep it neutral and polite.
