Built in wardrobes - should carpet come up?

As in the title I am having built in wardrobes made. I assume they shouldn't be built on top of the existing carpet and that the carpet should come up and be cut and relayed up to the wardrobes? Views on what others have done would be welcome.

Hi we just had the appointment yesterday - they said they have a floor and to fit without carpet/laminate and then do them afterwards.

Yes because otherwise when you replace any flooring in future it won't be flush with new wardrobes if different thickness etc.

Yes, it should be peeled back a bit to get the wardrobes in and then that edge of the carpet should be cut back and relaid along the front of the wardrobes. Shouldn’t need to take the entire carpet up.

I am not sure the wardrobe people will do the carpet trimming and relaying though which is a pain

Had this done about a year ago. The wardrobe fitters pulled back the carpet, fitted the wardrobes, then they got a tame carpet fitter back in to cut and fit the carpet so that it was just right. Fitter didn't charge much about £20 ( up north)

We pulled the carpet back for ours, then when Dh recarpeted the bedroom he fitted the new carpet up to the runner on the floor, and inside the wardrobe he put laminate floor, easy to dust.

We actually had ours fitted over the carpet, it wasn’t particularly deep pile otherwise the cupboards would have dropped a bit after fitting and pulled away from the ceiling. Not had any problems although if we ever gat a new carpet part of the old one will have to be left underneath.
