Connecting satellite dish to tv?

I've recently moved and the freeview reception is awful so I thought I'd buy a freesat box. There is a satellite dish on the house.

How do I connect the dish to the tv? I've attached a photo of the cables I think are for the dish. Do these connect to the freesat box or tv? Both or just one?

Sorry I'm so clueless!

Thanks.

The cable with the two screw ends goes into the back of the Freesat box, then you will need a cable to connect it to the tv, it's a while since I used one, not sure what kind, it should tell you in the instructions though.

The black leads with silver ends go into the Freesat box. There are two of them, so that means you have 2 receivers on your dish, so you can watch one programme and record another.

You then connect your TV to the Freesat box through an HDMI connector (they will be marked as HDMI 1, HDMI 2) etc.

if by any chance your TV has satellite capability you can connect directly, otherwise through the Freesat box as above.

BTW if you've bought a freesat recorder it will be Humax, the only one of the UK market AFAIK. Expect it to be pig-slow, overheat and be really badly designed and you won't be far off.

The Humax Freesat box I’ve got is about 10 years old now, and has never given me any problems. The only thing it is slow at is when I am deleting stuff from the hard drive, so that’s not too much of a problem.

Thanks everyone! That's great.

I found a freesat box on Amazon, Manhattan sx freesat box.

How would I find out if my tv has satellite capability?

Also is it possible that it's a sky dish instead and if so can i still use it for freesat?

You can use a sky dish for freesat

Badbilly · 31/12/2019 19:15

The easiest way to see if your tv has built in Freesat is to look for the model number- it will be on a panel at the back of the telly somewhere, and google it.

Badbilly · 31/12/2019 19:21

Also, the Manhattan box you quoted has only one input - so you will only need to use one of The connectors from the dish.

No freesat in tv, but I've found a second hand freesat box, so hopefully I'll be able to connect it ok.
