Advice on painting wardrobes

Has anyone done this before? I want to redecorate my bedroom as it’s been put off for so long. We have grey carpets and brown wardrobes, so something needs to change!
Our wardrobes are fitted and good quality, would it be mad to paint them? I can’t think how else I can find a colour scheme that works.
Any tips?

I've painted fitted wardrobes and used ESP (easy surface preparation) as mentioned above. The surface looked good for years; I used a satin topcoat for wood. I painted a dresser using chalk paint; it dried really quickly, but I wouldn't use it again.

My friend had this done and the guy didn’t use the Zinsser so it started peeling. I have done melamine kitchen doors with success. Didn’t use the Zinsser in the link but another in the range.

Make sure you thoroughly clean the door first. I did 2 costs of Zinsser then several coats of pain with a mini roller. Was pretty pleased how it turned out.
