Where to live in North Yorkshire

Looking to relocate with two young children. We’d like a nice village, with a pub and a shop. A good but small primary school and ideally a very good secondary (not asking for much Wink). Would need to be within 45 mins (ish) of a city. Good access to outdoors. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Selby? Within 45 mins of Leeds, York and Doncaster. Lovely surrounding villages, Thorpe Willoughby and Hambleton both have great pubs and Hambleton school is excellent. Two good high schools near by.

Grewelthorpe is a lovely village and only a few miles from Ripon.

How long is a piece of string! It would be useful to know your budget and size of house you are after, whether you are adverse to grammar schools and which city you want to be near to - Ripon is v different to Leeds...

Budget up to 500k. I’m after at least a 3 bed detached. Would love a bit of land or be out somewhere I could rent a field. I’d like a top performing secondary, such as Ripon Grammar but mixed so not Ermysted’s. Kids are primary age though so a small village school would suit. Cities I like - Harrogate, York and Ripon. Number one priority is kids education though.

I would look to the north and west of Ripon - you can get lovely houses there and it is not so “trendy” as the villages towards harrogate. I would look at around Kirby malzeard, grantley, grewlthorpe and masham - there is also north stainley which will probably come up in your searches - that is probably a little more marmite... these should get you in the catchment areas for the school and have village schools around which sound like what you want for primary education

I grew up in the north ( that's my name !) and would do anything to move back there now ! Around York is great, near good schools, and colleges and outlying villages, eg Bishopthorpe etc all have great pubs and primary schools ( according to my friends still living there) . You would get something very nice with your ££

Thanks everyone. Really helpful. I had actually started my search around Kirkby Malzeard and Grantley. X
