Any predictions for the property market post election

I am assuming a majority government for BoJo The Clown ..... and thinking that there will be a bit of activity with more coming on the market and maybe more transactions as maybe many have sat in their hands for sometime? Anyone else have any thoughts?

OP posts:

Serious buyers like DH and I have been carrying on regardless, and well priced properties are still selling. We need to move and there are people who need to sell.

Reading through mumsnet however it's like the country is doomed if BoJo gets in and goes ahead with brexit so who knows.

Orangesanddachshunds · 09/12/2019 15:51

Exactly what Neron said. Serious buyers and sellers will buy and sell regardless.

CatAndHisKit · 09/12/2019 21:02

any predictions in case of the hung parliament and no brexit (as an option)?

Alexalee · 09/12/2019 22:02

Nothing will change unless interest rates change. With such low rates there wont be any forced sellers and with such a lack of housing the seller can name their price and wait.
Stagnation for the foreseeable in my opinion prices may go up or down a few percent each year for the next decade
Or huge rise if boris pumps more money into htb etc

CatAndHisKit · 10/12/2019 01:05

Alexa, but obvs many/most sellers can't just wait - I can't, and willing to discount a bit but there is lack of buyers as I think they can't sell theirs either, and /or they arer waiting for total bargains/something perfect.

HeyPizza · 10/12/2019 10:05

I think lots of people will be waiting for Brexit to happen, or at least for the new government to be in place and perhaps for the next budget statement? If there are changes to stamp duty for example, it could impact some buyers/sellers, so perhaps that is also a factor.

I think the market will get moving again in the Spring, but whether prices go up or down remains to be seen.

sunshinesupermum · 10/12/2019 15:46

HeyPizza Brexit won't happen for ages yet, no matter BoJo stating Get Brexit Done. Even if his deal passes in a new parliament there's still the Irish question (border down the sea and no paperwork lol) and trade deals that will take forever.

People need to buy and sell for the same reasons as always, job changes, family breakups etc. AS long as a property is priced right it will sell, eventually.

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/12/2019 15:59

Immediately after the election if BJ gets in there will be nothing happening as it’s 2 weeks before Christmas

January and things will start moving.

JC gets in then there will be a lot of houses going up for sale and a lot of eviction notices sent out.

CatAndHisKit · 10/12/2019 20:18

Oliver can you explain why (your last paragraph)? where would all these people be looking to move? Or do you mean landlords selling?

YeOldeTrout · 10/12/2019 21:05

I think there will be a bounce up until October ish time. Then doldrums... then we crash, right? That's what the fervert Brexiters want to happen.

Oliversmumsarmy · 11/12/2019 10:35

CatAndHisKit I live in a very affluent area and I know of no one who if Labour get in is staying.

They all have houses dotted around the world already
They all have very portable businesses.

Some of them have rented properties. I know one who has the eviction notices already to print off on his computer on Friday morning if Labour get in.

None are going to stay.

We are in the position that Dp is thinking of asking for a transfer to the US.
(He works for a large American multinational company so could transfer anywhere in the world)

I wouldn’t have a business if Labour got in and have no real ties to this country apart from Dc who would come with us.

Ds and Dd do have work here and would be more harder to move but they can start again and we have discussed the possibility of this happening and they are both quite happy to go.

hi,

What are your opinions now on the market? Am looking for a starter flat in London. Small budget so will be in outskirts

Anitai · 24/02/2020 00:50

I’ve been looking since September 19 and feel prices are starting to creep back up

Bigblue20 · 24/02/2020 01:07

Are you looking in London @Anitai Its hard to tell, I think

Itscoldouthere · 24/02/2020 01:16

I’m looking in London, have been since September time (not in a hurry) I don’t think that much has come onto the market, lots of flats have been hanging around for ages, I’m hoping things will start coming to the market soon. My current house is going through with its sale, I will probably have to put things in storage for a while, but I’m willing to wait for the right property.

Bigblue20 · 24/02/2020 01:39

And what is your gut sense? that they will head upwards again (I expect there to be the Spring to Summer rise) but overall it's picking up?
