Low-cost heater for garden room

Earlier in the year we had a garden room built (in use as a music room). Wondering how best to heat it now we're moving into winter. It's well-insulated but still drops to about 10 degrees over night. Once it's heated-up it seems to maintain heat quite well but it's how best to get it up to, say, 18 degrees. The problem is also that it's not used all the time so I need to work out whether it's best to warm up it up during the day so that it's warm for use in the evenings. At the moment we have an oil-filled radiator in there but I'm reluctant to whack that up high just before we go in, as I know they're expensive to run. We need something portable so that we can keep the use of the room and its furniture flexible (ie not wall-mounted). Also haven't got oodles of cash.

Thanks for any suggestions/advice.

all electric heaters have the same efficiency, a kw is a kw. (I don't always get believed on this, although Piglet John does so feel free to ask him)

so a cheapie from Argos will do it. Put up some good thick curtains too. (charity shops have plenty if you get past the festive tat)

What is a garden room?

We bought the John Lewis tower one (£95). Very quiet, takes up no space. Very warm!

2.2kw. So will cost you 2.2 x your unit rate to run. As will the Argos similar job at half the price.

Get one with a 24 hour timer (maybe they all have them) so it's on when you need it.

does "garden room" mean something like this?

Following with interest. I have a fan heater and a halogen jobbie. The halogen one is a very bright light and the fan heater seems to work much faster.

I would stick with your oil heater and buy a plug in timer. Or get a little cheap fan heater to whack up the heat instantly while the oil one warms up.

a garden room is a fancy shed. fitted out like a room if a house minus efficient insulation.

if it's wood cladding outside, and ply or plasterboard inside, it will have low thermal mass and will heat up/cool down quickly. But what insulation does it have in the walls, roof and floor?

do the windows steam up?
