how much to decorate a bedroom?

Have just had a quote to decorate dd's bedroom: about 10' x 7' (so tiny!). £1k. Surely this is on the high side?! The work would be repairing some plaster, painting walls, ceiling, paintwork and taking up carpet.

Does anyone know what is normal? We are in the south east, but not London-y.

Haven’t done exactly what you are having, but to give a rough idea:

Plastering full room inc boarding ceiling/skimming walls in a similar sized bedroom- about £400

Painting room, ceiling and woodwork- about £275 (we supplied wall emulsion, painter other materials).

Taking up a carpet- it’s a quick rip out job? I suppose if they’re charging for disposal it might be £50-£75? The carpet fitters we used included disposal of the old carpet in their fitting price.

So yes it looks expensive. Whereabouts in the country are you?

We just paid around £400 (inc paint) for two double bedrooms - walls, ceiling, 3 doors, skirting boards - North East

That sound high. We paid about 800 for a big bedroom, ceiling papered, papered on one wall, fireplace and all woodwork painted and the other walls.fillng and repairing too.

Thank you - I thought it was rather excessive!

I’ve just had mine done. Paper to one wall, painting three walls, ceiling, two doors and skirting, just over £500.

Crikey - we're SE too and paid £1,000 to have two bedrooms and a hallway (including stairs, upstairs and downstairs) painted and that included repainting 9 doors! It didn't need much remedial repair work though so that was mostly a straight paint job.
