Can you get a small patch of damaged carpet replaced?

I am talking 12 inches long, 3-4 inches wide, alongside a skirting board, and I have an exact off cut.

is this something a carpet layer could do? I am not expecting perfection, just not paying out the ££ it'll cost to replace the entire bedroom carpet where the shower leaked (and no, I can't/won't do insurance, the NCB is already too badly blown!)

You can get it retufted if the backing is undamaged. They will use strands of pile from the offcut and replace the tufts in the damaged area. Google for places near you that will do it and ask for an estimate.

Thanks. The bit actually needs cutting away. The skirting board 'blew' after being leaked on by the adjoining shower, and brown stain has leached into the carpet. It needs replacing, that bit.

I think you might have problems with the join not staying put. Have you tried a carpet cleaner to get the stain out? Personally I'd tolerate a stain rather than risk a loose bit.

No, it's a mess. I'd post s picture but new MN users aren't allowed to.

Is it in a discreet enough place that you could have a go at fixing this yourself?
Could you lift the edge of the carpet off the carpet gripper, then cut out the damaged bit with good scissors?
Cut a new piece to the same size then use double sided carpet adhesive tape to hold the cut edges in place and attach other end to carpet gripper as before.
Double sided carpet adhesive tape available from Amazon etc.
A carpet fitter would certainly be able to do it. The problem you may have is in getting someone to come and do such a small job. If you have other carpets needing replaced, they may be happy to fix this at the same time.

Thanks. I am wondering if we might 'av a go' ourselves!
