How much should I expect to pay for a driveway?

We moved into our new house some months ago and we have decided we would like to turn our front garden into a driveway as parking is limited on the road.

It’s quite large, I estimate parking three cars comfortably and four at a push. It’s currently soil and grass with a concrete path up the middle.

We’re in SE London/Kent boarders. I would love to know how much I can expect to pay for turn it to a driveway. I think we would go for standard brick. Thank you.

If you reckon on a rough guide of £100 per square metre you won't be far out. Driveways are expensive!

I am also on the London/Kent border and have just been quoted £10,000 for block paving, but we have a huge driveway, it's 200 square meters, enough space for six cars. So works out about £50 per sq m. Bloody expensive and we won't be having it done any time soon 😫

Update!! We have been quoted £12k!

I nearly fell over.

We just paid 7k for block paving on about 100sqm of drive. There was crazy paving with tarmac underneath it so they had to dig down quite deep. We are surrey/London border.

haha - we were quoted 17k for bound resin. Needless to say it still hasn't been done!

Yes, we are keeping some of the grass as would like to plant shrubs etc but that doesn’t seem to be helping with the cost tbh.

For our whole driveway (resin) we were quoted £4K. We instead went for half with gravel about £800. (East anglia)

£12K seems horrendous but will it add to the value of your property? I would imagine it would.

Where I live (city centre) a garage can go for £120,000.

NW - Paid £7k for block paving (large enough for 2 cars) with raised edge.

We paid £2100 for tarmac a couple of years ago. Our drive is about 35 m2 and can fit 4 cars Our neighbour paid the same firm well over double for an identical job.

While material makes some difference I think an awful lot of firms quote silly prices. We just kept saying no and they just kept dropping. If they hadn't we'd have gone somewhere else.

Our driveway has parking for 3 cars, possibly 4 at a push, and we had it block paved a couple of years ago for around £4.5K.

We had an estimate for £3k plus VAT for tarmac and it's only big enough to fit one car on. We aren't having it done. South West.

We paid £8K and it fits about four cars.

£1200 for a cheap gravel drive with a cobble border. It looks ok! Will try and find a photo.

Nothing special but better than the dirt/broken tarmac that was there before.

I think that looks great, & for what, 1/10th of the price of getting it block paved based on the other replies? a complete no-brainer IMO; Also better for the environment, and warding off burglars.

@ScabbyBabby that is my favourite kind of drive! Good to know it’s cost effective! Did you do it yourself or get a pro?
