What would you sacrifice? Chimney or more space?

This concerns a loft space which is currently half converted but not to building regs. I want to open up both sides of the roof space to create a big master bedroom with en-suite. Done to building regs. In order to do this, I’d have to sacrifice the wood burning stove (although I could get an electric one as a compromise).

What would you rather have? Working chimney or more space?

What would retaining the chimney mean for your plans?

Depends on the house and how the log burner fits in. In addition, also depends on your heating. Years ago we had fires which I love but we upgraded the central heating. Never use them as the heating is so effective and would have to switch it off to use the fire but the rest of the house would freeze.

If losing the chimney is critical to success of the project I'd do it. Be aware though of potential structural work involved being expensive and potentially needing a structural engineers plans which cost circa £500
