Redditch/Warwickshire/Worcs

Hi I am looking for info on the Warwickshire/Worcs border or specifically around Redditch.
I am thinking of moving around there with my partner. We both work in the Solihull/Birmingham area. We want to buy somewhere together for a new start (we are both divorced) and away from memories etc.
We don't want to live in Birmingham and can't afford the nicer areas of Solihull, don't want any large busy town or city.
some of the areas surrounding Redditch are quite quiet and green and reasonable house prices ????

Some really lovely areas around there. Have a look at Studley, Mappleborough Green, Astwood Bank, and Bidford on Avon (although check historical flooding issues here). Are schools a consideration?

Redditch itself is not that nice but there are a few nice surrounding areas. Inkberrow & Feckenham are lovely villages. They are sought after though, so prices reflect that.

Heading into Worcs rather than Warwickshire tends to reduce prices. But yes, it's a beautiful part of the world!

I used to live in Redditch 15 years ago. It used to have a good shopping area. We used to live at Walkwood but our first house. It depends upon your budget but Astwood Bank is nice. There are also a few nice villages outside of Solihull but towards Redditch.

don't have to worry about schools anymore, but want to be in a quiet area with a bit of a community.
Ipsley? Astwood Bank and Mapleborough Green look nice but not much for sale if anything? Like the look of Feckenham but a bit too far away from work...
Heard mixed views of Studley?
budget is not great as both lost a lot on divorce so only around £270k but don't need anything big

Depends on what type of house you're after, there's a few new builds such as in brockhill but not much amenities nearby such as local shops and businesses.
Older areas are nicer such as walkwood, headless cross and webheath
Plus sides are its easy to get around as it doesn't seem to get anywhere near as much traffic as other towns and cities.

swapsicles basically the West side of Redditch is better then?

You could look at headless cross too, some parts are really nice. There's lots of green spaces. In headless cross you could get a really nice 3 bed semi for your budget, or there are character properties too which go for a bit more for the space you get.

I'd personally avoid astwood Bank. You pay a premium for the postcode but (while you don't need schools) the two schools are both pretty rubbish so house prices aren't keeping up, whereas the two schools in headless cross are excellent which is keeping the property market buoyant here.

Alvechurch is near Junction 2 for travel to Solihull and on the cross-city train line for Birmingham.

I grew up in Solihull but married into Redditch.

Headless cross, crabbs cross, webheath, walkwood, Callow hill, Astwood Bank are all nice

Avoid : matchborough, lodgepark, Greenlands, church hill, batchley- although even these are actually becoming better as prices are driving people away from the other areas.

The thing with Redditch is it's a very small place- you can literally walk 1.5 miles to town and go through some lovely areas, then through the hood, then back to nice areas again.

Studley is very mixed - some lovely bits and some bloody awful bits.

Same can be said for most of the districts, to be honest. DH is a Redditch lad and suggests Hunt End, Callow Hill, Webheath, Headless Cross. Astwood Bank and Sambourne are nice but not Redditch apparently!

Inkberrow is Ambridge.

If I was forced to move there, I would be going for a village towards Warwick.

Avoid Redditch I’d say - basically lots of modern housing estates off dual carriageways. You can get a nice big house for a good price but a drive away from any amenities. The centre is bland, just a shopping centre really and nothing independent or interesting. I’ve always found it a strange place that doesn’t really have a town centre feel - just a bit of a ‘nothing’ place.

I would advise you 100% to go over into the Worcestershire border where the villages are lovely, you’ve got easy access to motorways and train stations (including Warwick parkway down to London and Birmingham international) with Birmingham not far away.

Depending how long a commute you’d accept, there are a lot of places around there where you’d be in Solihull within 40 minute drive.
