I don't know if we should offer or not now.

Nothing released about it could be drugs/gangs could be hate crime the guy wasn't local though.

Any advice?

We're 0.7 miles away.

Wouldn't touch Deepcar with a bargepole. Been a rough area for years, eapecially drug use etc. Where in Sheffield do you need to be? Its also miles from anywhere (hence the youth crime etc). Id come further in (Hillborough way) or if you can afford it, south Sheffield.

wowfudge · 31/07/2019 17:11

I would look at the crime stats for the street the house is on. It's a fair distance from the house you're looking at. Someone was murdered in a house 0.2 miles away from me a few years ago. This had nothing to do with the area and everything to do with the company the victim kept.

Heratnumber7 · 31/07/2019 19:05

I it the murder per se you're concerned about? ie about someone dying so close to your house?

Or are you concerned that it's a rough area and that there might be a risk to your own safety?

Hecateh · 31/07/2019 19:31

I don't think there is any real problem with Deepcar. Obviously some streets are better than others.

A taxi driver once didn't want to take me home from Sheffield to the outskirts of Barnsley because 'they murder taxi drivers there'.

A driver had been murdered a year previously and he deduced that all taxi drivers who went to Barnsley were at risk.

A one off can happen anywhere.

0.7 miles in an urban area?! That’s not particularly close. In London that would move you between billionaires and council estates.

LAlexander7 · 31/07/2019 21:21

Well the house is actually on Manchester Road.

Midway between Deepcar and Stocksbridge.

Use police.com to check the crime stats it's worth knowing what's happening locally before buying anyway but it could have been targeted or gang related as you said

WillLokireturn · 31/07/2019 22:47

Gosh,.unless they were murdered in the house you were buying that wouldn't put me off. I live in a wonderfully safe child friendly area, but over past 10 years there was a local shop keeper murdered within 2 miles in town, I'm a quiet shop cashing up/opening up, an armed police response to a bank robbery 0.5 miles away (one rilobber was shot dead) as it was so quiet that a London gang had targeted it, (umpteen miles into countryside far from London but Met police had been tracking them) and a chap that was stabbed 0.4 miles away in a domestic arguement with his (not so) friends. Yet, they were all one offs and so incredibly sad - & our area has very very low crime rates!!

So, if you like the house and the area, don't let an unfortunate event nearby deter you from your dream home.

WillLokireturn · 31/07/2019 22:49

So I don't know the area you are buying in, but there are unfortunate murders going on all around...and other stuff, no matter how quiet an area. If you check out local crime rates, you'll get your answer as to.whether it is a problem /high crime area.

gettingtherequickly · 01/08/2019 08:35

Deepcar isn't a bad area, I've lived fairly locally all my life and this is the first murder that I can remember hearing of. Friends who grew up there and still live there seem happy with the area. This murder has deeply shocked everyone.

Manchester Road is the main road through the village, but it's fairly quiet because of the bypass. You've also got great shopping and food in fox valley.

I used to live in a very nice area-very middle class

The houses worth £500,000 plus (we rented)

Lived there for 7 years with no real crime (maybe the odd bike nicked)

Anyway one day my daughter walked in saying she’d seen a young lad walking down the street covered in blood-she was very shaken up at the sight

Turns out he’d murdered his mums boyfriend about a quarter of a mile down the road to us

Another time about 2 years later my son popped to the corner shop and came home saying he had seen a lad run out of a house over the road and he collapsed in the street-he’d been stabbed and died an hour later in hospital

This can happen anywhere-the house we’d lived in before had 3 murders within 11 months on our street-one over the road to us-and that street was just over two miles from where we moved to

I’d do a bit more digging on the area
