We have a carpenter to build the wardrobes into a tiny room, I need inspiration. Anyone out there with amazing space saving ideas to make the most use of the room available? What would you consider essential ? I'll be taking up 3/4 of the space & hubby the rest. Have an average size collection of clothes, shoes & bags. Any advice most appreciated !

My three favourite things about my walk in wardrobe/ dressing room:

  1. Shoe racks the whole length of one side at the bottom
  2. A built in umbrella stand in the corner
  3. a wall attachment to store both iron and ironing board

I find that I don’t use the shoe racks at all. Out-of-season shoes are in boxes. In-season shoes I store downstairs as wouldn’t want to take them up unless I’ve cleaned the soles (and that’s a hassle).
Things I like are:

  1. good touch lighting that illuminated different shelves well
  2. Lots of hanging space with matching hangers
  3. Glass fronted drawers to see what’s inside
  4. Drawers with compartments to organise accessories such as belts, scarves or chunky jewellery.

@JoJoSM2 I'm very impressed that your out of season shoes are in boxes - mine just go on the shoe racks!

I put things away. Otherwise, I used to find that I got bored of things (staring at a pair of sandals all though the winter and then wanting to buy sth new). I also put my out-of-season clothes away to only have appropriate and well-fitting items out. Ends up being only a small selection but it makes me feel like all my wardrobe is great and everything goes.

I read the title as wank in wardrobe 😂
Sorry OP I can't contribute as I have an ensuite instead. But I'd love one if we ever get a bigger house.

Following with interest as my walk-in wardrobe currently contains two chest of of drawers and a clothes rail and a fair bit of junk in bags and I’m in the process of planning some fitted units.

I like the idea of making space for the iron and ironing board in there.

When I’m planning something like this I use graph paper to drawer out the space and work out what combination will work with accurate dimensions.

@JoJoSM2 your space sounds lovely and I’m in awe at your levels of organisation. I suspect it has the added bonus of being easy to keep tidy.

I didn’t get it 100% right the first time. But as we’ve got the Ikea system, it’s very easy to swap a shelf for a drawer or a hanging rail etc as and when to suit your needs better.
