Stafford area - DP's need a bungalow!

Hi
My DP's are moving to Stafford to be closer to my db and sil. They need a bungalow with a minimum of 3 bedrooms, a garden and a garage. They don't mind some cosmetic work (new kitchen and bathroom would be about the limit) but don't want a renovation project either. It also needs to be close to a railway station (ideally walking distance but this isn't a necessity) and local shops. They have just accepted an offer on their house and are ready to go.
They have viewed one property already and dm loved it. However its very overpriced and needs more work than I think she realises so I am trying to get them to look at others. Please help us Mumsnetter's! Cake

Sorry I meant to add - can anyone recommend surrounding areas to look at? :) thanks

What's their budget? I bought my forever house in Stafford last year and I'm a Rightmove addict. If access to train station is important you might also want to look at Penkridge although bungalows will be fairly rare. I'd also suggest Stone to the north although trains are less frequent.

IHateTennis · 09/07/2019 19:51

@MrsWeatherwax - ideally no higher than £360,000 but their is wriggle room potentially. They liked Penkridge but as you say, Bungalows seemed to be few and fair between in that area. Unfortunately dm has limited mobility these days and can no longer manage stairs so the bungalow bit isn't negotiable.

Okay, definitely doable in that budget, so all rooms on one level then ideally?

If walking distance to the train isn't a complete must have I would also suggest the villages of Milford, Weston, Great Heywood and Little Heywood and Hixon to the east of Stafford. To the west maybe look at Haughton, Gnosall, Hyde Lea and Derrington. Will try to do some clicky links for you if u ever get off this god forsaken train!

A second recommendation for Stone, don't know Stafford well enough to be useful sorry (my beautician works from Stone, and I go there to let her do her magic stuff.

CardinalCopia · 09/07/2019 20:14

Stone, Tittensor and Eccleshall would be good suggestions. Outlying villages like Milwich are stunning but a bit remote.

CardinalCopia · 09/07/2019 20:15

Nice one here just outside Eccleshall

Lovely property in stone, walking distance to station reckon you could get it in budget www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/70482295

Whilst over budget I'd humbly suggest this is also slightly over priced for this area of Stafford and could be achieved in budget www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/71803015

Not sure why this one hasn't sold in Hyde Lea, seems a lot of bungalow for the money www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/64304065

Thanks all - very useful Smile

@Mrsweatherwax - the property in your second link is the one they have already viewed and DM loves Grin great minds think alike

Sorry, I can't resist one last wild card, Brewood is lovely village South West of Stafford not far from Penkridge, dont think this will be on the market for long and definitely doesn't need much doing to it. www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/72614626

Think I best stop pretending I'm Kirstie Allsop now and have a Gin. Hope your parents manage to find the right house!

I'm from stafford and go there every week to visit family. I was thinking high park off Newport road then I saw that you said your parent had viewed and like the most.

In stafford Look at:
Walton on the hill is area v nice
Baswich
Milford
Brocton
Off Lichfield road - Warwick road, Lancaster road
There's one on school lane and one Barn bank lane
The north end of town eg trinity fields area
Hyde lea but no shops in walking distance

Villages/ towns - the heywoods
Eccleshall, stone, Weston Gnosall, haughton

Ask me and I'll do my best to answer your questions

I'm in stafford tomorrow and can drive by any bungalows your parent are interested in and report back
