Roof lantern opening - worth it or not?

We have the options between

Contemporary lantern. 2m x 1m. all white. Double glazed, Activ Blu glass. No opening.

Option 2 Regular lantern design. 2m x 1m. all white. Double glazed. Activ Blu glass. One manual opening panel with pole

Option 3 Regular lantern design. 2m x 1m. all white. Double glazed. Activ Blu glass. One electric opening panel with 1 rocker switch.

Visually, we like the contemporary design with has less divisions on the glass and thus allowing more light coming through.

But I thought the opening on top of the roof is handy in hot days and to send trapped insects out. However, the cost difference is over ÂŁ 800 and we are not sure if it is worth to switch to the regular design which has a lot more divisions on the glass.

Any thought is appreciated.

We have a large opening lantern roof in the kitchen and a big heritage roof light above the stairs. Both open manually and, in my view, it lets the house breathe. Both are pole and screw type openings. If you can get electric fitted I would do it. Ours cannot have electric switches but I had them in a glass roof previously and they are great.

Bingbo we had an opening roof lantern in our previous house. Judging from our experience I think you might really regret getting one you couldn’t open. They look great and let in loads of light but it can get very hot sitting underneath one.

Option 3 for me - we went for an electric velux roof window in our kitchen with 4m high ceiling. I love opening it on warm days for extra air flow or partially when it's not quite hot enough to open the door. The higher price was worth every penny.

if you are S or W facing the opening is invaluable
