IKEA Hemnes wash stand

Been looking everywhere for a bathroom sink vanity unit with deep drawers for storage, rather than cupboard. I keep coming back to the IKEA Hemnes range, specifically ‘HEMNES/RÄTTVIKEN Wash-stand with 2 drawers’.

I wasn’t setting out to use IKEA but can’t find anything else similar. Does anyone have this or another Hemnes sink cabinet? Any feedback on durability? In particular I can’t find accurate information on exact depth of the bigger deep bottom drawer. It’s key that I can fit in tall bottles eg bathroom cleaner & bleach. Waiting for IKEA to come back on this, but if anyone has one and could let me know that would be great too Smile

Aargh sorry it’s HEIGHT of the bottom drawer I’m after, not depth

We have it. A method cleaning stuff bottle fits in but I’ve just tried Sainsbury’s bleach and it JUST doesn’t.

Quick measure and it’s 27.5 or possibly 27.6 deep.

Oh and it seems durable, we’ve had it eighteen months.

BiscuitDrama · 19/06/2019 06:39

I mean the drawer is 27.5cm tall. Grin

Amazing thank you so much. Not the answer I was hoping for though Sad

Where do you store your bleach then BiscuitDrama?

Cupboard in the kitchen, under the sink.

We have it and it was the best thing we bought for our bathroom had it 3 years this summer and looks like new. You can store so much in it - it is the equivalent of a pan drawer in terms of must haves for bathrooms as you can see all the stuff you have so easily. Like the other poster we keep loo cleaner under the sink in the kitchen but the sprays etc fit in fine.

applepinkierainbow · 19/06/2019 07:19

Sorry now feel like an idiot we have these ones www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/odensvik-godmorgon-wash-stand-with-2-drawers-black-brown-dalskär-tap-spr-99292844/ (although with a different sink on top). But the same principle applies in depth!

TitusP · 19/06/2019 09:39

I have it, we love it and I think it looks much nicer in my bathroom than it did in the showroom smug. We changed the handles and used a non Ikea tap and get a lot of compliments on it. I can't measure it at the moment but I know it fits precisely two loo rolls stacked on top of each other if that is at all helpful!

hoopyloopy2 · 19/06/2019 13:20

Thanks all. I really do like it and it’s great to hear that it seems to stand the test of time. I just can’t get over the need to store bleach etc upright! Sounds like a small detail but my kitchen is a fair walk from the bathroom...

Are different brands of bleach a different height maybe? You need to go round some supermarkets with a tape measure!

Bottledate · 20/06/2019 19:23

We've just had that combo put in. Really like the sink for the splash back and the drawers (which hold loads) instead of a cupboard, but it is irritating that a spray bottle doesn't quite fit upright.

hoopyloopy2 · 20/06/2019 19:29

Thanks - yes I wish they could make the top drawer a little bit shallower & the bottom one a bit deeper. That would solve the problem. Still hoping to find another deeper drawer vanity but after hours of googling & asking a bathroom shop to help me I don’t think it exists Hmm

OP posts:
TitusP · 21/06/2019 09:24

@hoopyloopy2 I don't think it exists either, I spent hours searching for drawer vanity units and visited several shops. They all said they don't exist, especially in the more classic style like Hemnes.

hoopyloopy2 · 21/06/2019 13:09

Thanks @TitusP time to stop looking then! Now to decide whether to go for cupboards or whether I can put up with having my bottles lying down or elsewhere.

I have the washstand. Keep bleach next to/behind the loo (depending on loo shape/style).

PeachPotato · 21/06/2019 16:58

Could you keep the bleach in a flower pot type thing so it could be slightly tilted? It’s so close to fitting!

Smallinthesmoke · 22/06/2019 10:42

Yeah, it doesn't exist.
I didn't want Hemnes but ended up with it. Was pleasantly surprised by how nice it looked. It was sturdier than I expected too.

hoopyloopy2 · 22/06/2019 19:13

I think you’re all convincing me Smile The price is good too. @PeachPotato not sure what you mean the flowerpot though?

And did any of you have trouble with the unusual plumbing fittings or using non Ikea taps? I’ve read a couple of things online that seem to suggest it might not be straightforward to fit.
