I had a lot burner fitted approx 3 years ago now, into the chimney breast with an flexible pipe up the chimney and bird guard on top. Over the last few months there has been loud noises in the chimney and lots of brick dust and soot falling down and coming through to the fireplace, this is more noticeable since the chimney has been swept, has anyone ever had anything like this happen?

You might have a bird's nest up there. Can you get a chimney company out to have a look. The bird guard may have blown off or been dislodged

Thanks, the bird guard looks in place and we have had the fire on so I assume any bird would be roasted by now unfortunately.

This recently happened to us, although we have an open fireplace rather than a logburner. A few days later a fully grown magpie emerged from the chimney into our front room 🙄. Apparently bird guards are not infallible!
