Roof lantern glass advice please

We have a sunroom that currently has a sloping roof with three velux windows. We are thinking of replacing the back wall with big picture windows and then replacing the current roof with a glass lantern. However I am worried about glare and it being too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Does all the anti-glare and solar efficient glass out there really work? The room is west-facing.

Not exactly. The sun is bright and is hot at times and we have a very expensive stay clean glass lantern. Having said that, I’m sitting in my kitchen with the lantern roof appreciating the sky and clouds: it’s wonderful and it’s light!

We have underfloor heating and it’s never cold. It would be too hot but we have two sets of French doors, opening roof vents and windows so we can control the heat but on a very hot day you need to consider ventilation. It’s vital.

South west will get sun pretty much all day won't it? Can you get openers in your roof lantern? As best rises so that's the best escape route for it?

Lanterns nice but depending on position the sun glare can be horrendous and depending on furniture can wreck it. We opted for Velux windows and they are brilliant and also have blinds. Stick with them and save the money

Hmm I don't know, you can get different types of glazing for lantern roofs - solar control glass for example so you don't necessarily have to worry about sun glare these days!

You can find out a bit more about them here www.conservatoryonlineprices.co.uk/lantern-roof-conservatory/

You can get a rough price for a lantern roof here:
