Optimum time to look for rental?

If I need to rent a 1 bed unfurnished flat (outside of London) is there a specific time that's best to look? I remember seeing somewhere that it was May (in which case I've missed it) and then again in December; maybe the thinking was that its every 6 months?

Also posted in Chat for traffic - thanks in advance.

In my opinion (renting for almost 10 years) the only bad time is just before and after Christmas. This is because in order for somewhere to come back on the rental market, usually the current tenants have to think, sod it, lets move, and give their 1 months notice. People very rarely fancy doing that just before or after Christmas. The rest of the year it's fair game. If you're looking in a uni town and students snap up places, then factor that in too obviously. But otherwise I think all year round is a good time.
