We are adding a room onto kitchen, main feature is bifold doors that open onto garden - hurray!!!

We can't decide whether to add a roof lantern or sky light as well - worried about overheating the space, or too much light/ glare ... What's your experience of modern glass lanterns and skylights??

Thanks so much mumsnetters!!

We umm and ahhed about adding a roof light above our island and went for it in the end - and have no regrets. It's a real feature and everyone who has come round has commented that it's great. We don't get glare are too much heat.
Do have a think about the path of the sun though. Over our house it follows a path over the part of the roof without the skylight so it doesn't shine directly though it - especially important if you want to use the island (or area under the skylight) for putting food out - perhaps for daytime entertaining or to sit at to work in which case it would be too hot.
I have no regrets at all!

We have one. Love it .

Don’t regret ours at all and like the way it breaks up the ceiling space. My only complaint is that it attracts a lot of insects!

We had a blind fitted for ours but we never use it.

Ours makes a huge difference light wise... makes the room boiling tho, wish we had put solar reflective glass and a couple of openers in

Make sure it opens - somehow. It needs to allow air to circulate. We have a huge one and it can get hot in summer. However, lots of opening doors allows air to circulate and it is rarely too hot.

Let it open to let the hot air and the insects out.
