Me and my partner are currently relocating from London to Sheffield due to a job promotion. We’ve viewed the house and put in an application and paid the fees. My partner starts his new job promotion on Saturday and we have been given a move in date of This Friday.
We’ve booked the van and family have made arrangements to take the day off work to help us move.
I contacted the estate agent last week to inform them I had paid the deposit and the estate agent said everything must of gone through and she will contact me if otherwise and we were all good to move on Friday.
I called the estate agent yesterday just to confirm we could pick the keys up at any time during the day on Friday as obviously we were travelling a long distance so couldn’t give an exact time in case of traffic. I was informed that the referencing still hadn’t gone through and she couldn’t help and we just have to wait. She told me we shouldn’t have paid the deposit as it was to soon however they sent an email demanding the deposit be paid within 24 hours or risk losing the property. So we obviously made the bank transfer to them. We obviously didn’t question the email because we are moving into the property.
We made the application 4 weeks ago so made sure there was plenty of time.
We are now in the position of potentially becoming homeless and jobless and the estate agent doesn’t seem interested.
We’ve also paid for a hire van so are now out of pocket. Does anyone have any advice? The estate agent we are dealing with really doesn’t seem interested.
