new build flat -- unexpected pillar in a bed room!

Hi. I am buying a new flat which is to complete next couple of months. I did a site inspection the other day and found out there was a pillar in the master bedroom. (almost 1 metre from wall) This was not in the plan and if it was I would not certainly buy the flat, especially at that price!

I am wondering what I can do now (exchanged and paid deposit already but awaiting completion) and if I can cancell the contract all together or how much I should ask for compensation.

Also not sure if can trust my solicitor in this situation as making things go through would be in their interests as well. Who should I turn to if my solicitor is not good enough for me?

Any inputs will be very welcome!

If the flat is not what was shown to you on the original plans, talk to your solicitor immediately. You really should not accept this. A pillar has probably been installed because the developed wouldn’t pay for a beam and possibly alter the design to accommodate this. So a cheap solution for them but a huge inconvenience for you.
