Bosch, Neff or Miele (or any others)

I have always had neff hob/oven and Bosch white good. Have lasted me years. However have seen many mentions of Miele. Is it worth paying more and for which appliances is Miele better?

Thank you

I have had:

Bosch W/M huge 9kg , last 10 years then (I think) the drum bearings went , it got very noisy when spinning and I retired it before it broke .
Got a Miele , in less than a year the belt snapped and had to be replaced . So I'm Hmm but I know it's the luck of the draw.

Bosch T/D was ok, but the handle sheared off the, belt snapped )got replaced) and eventually it seized .
Hotpoint TD needs repaired as it doesn't bloody heat Hmm (less than a year old)

Bosch DW lasted 4.6 years , 3 repars in that time then unrepairable ( John Lewis extended warrantee meant we got a replacement ) so we've just got a Neff ( fingers crossed)

Bosch kettle - ok, kettles don't last long here (hard water so have to filter )

I think it is a case of luck really . My original Bosch W/M was fitted in 2006 and as I said , worked like a Trojan for 10 years .

Have the cheapest Miele fridge (good) and the Cat n Dog vac... which is great. My best current advice is that I don't like my new AEG dishwasher as much as my (20-yr old and now dead) Bosch. It seems to have a much smaller capacity, but it is very quiet. The Bosch washing machine I have been pleased with.

Miele , in less than a year the belt snapped and had to be replaced

the belt was replaced not the machine

We just removed a Miele hob from 1983. It was still working perfectly. We have a Neff oven and very happy with that.

Love my Miele washer dryer. I'm planning to get miele everything in my new place but the base models, not the fancy ones.

clarrylove · 06/05/2019 07:37

Our AEG w/M is now 22yrs old and still going strong. I think we are for AEG appliances, but I did used to work for them.

fairislecable · 06/05/2019 07:48

I was happy with my ancient Neff oven and intended to replace like for like but the build quality on the newer versions was very poor.

Visited the Miele showroom and I am very happy with Miele.

Their washing machines and dishwashers are expensive but they have built in longevity not obsolescence.

chopc · 06/05/2019 08:09

Thanks for all your input. Next question - what is the cheapest place to get Miele appliances?

I thought this was a baby name thread on first glance 😂

Careful with Mielie. Bought their cheaper ranges of dryer and washing machine and been disappointed with both. Bought them direct from Mielie and took specific model advice from their sales guys.

Man from Mielie came round as dryer was taking forever and he said "yes, we know this model of dryer is not great" ...we are phasing it out soon.

Buying again I would get Bosch.

Mosaic123 · 06/05/2019 19:15

Gosh. That's disappointing about Miele.

Mustbetimeforachange · 06/05/2019 19:28

Remember that those who say "we had a Bosch, it lasted 20 years" that they are not made to the same standards now.
We had a Bosch (pretty good) & now have a Mile. 3.5 years in with no problems (heavy use) but some programmes don't rinse very well, even though I use half the amount of powder recommended by the detergent makers

LoopyGremlin · 06/05/2019 19:33

I’ve had a Miele washing machine for around 12 years now and it’s still going strong despite heavy use. The main reason I went for it was it had a 10 year guarantee!

PazRaz10 · 07/05/2019 10:42

Bosch and Neff are made by the same company!
My W/m and T/d are Bosch as our last Bosch w/m lasted 15 years, and we bought them before our new kitchen was designed.
Our kitchen appliances are all Neff as our local kitchen company is the largest supplier of Neff in the South and so we had a good discount. I personally couldn't justify the extra for Miele, it seems brand snobbery for me as I'd never had experience and would have been buying it cause nice designery homes always have Miele!!

chopc · 07/05/2019 10:54

Do you think having Miele appliances increases the value of a house? Or makes it more saleable?

notangelinajolie · 07/05/2019 10:57

Buy British. Stoves.

BubblesBuddy · 07/05/2019 11:04

My Miele dishwasher is super quiet. Most peple do not know it is on. It is quiter than many on the market and is efficient and effective. My induction hob is like new after 10 years.

My Miele Washing machine is brilliant. It replaced a 20 year old Siemens one and most are not built to this level of quality now. Miele is. Ditto the tumble drier. I always look closely at reviews of the machines before I buy, including Which. If the appliance is not a Best Buy, then I do not buy it. It has to score highly and that would include drying if it was my tumble dryer. Usually overloading a tumble drier causes poor drying. With Miele, the filters must be very clear. The slightest fluff causes poor results. It is very easy to clear them though. Also, constant use of a 30 degree washing cycle causes clogging of detergent. So always use a 90 degree wash every week. Towels are good for this wash. If you do these simple things, Miele machines keep going happily for years.

The only slight gripe we have had is with the coffee machine where the internal workings are made by Nespresso, not Miele. It is badged as Miele but its not up to their standards. We have had issues with the capusule eject module not ejecting. Numerous visits from Miele have resulted in the machine almost being new inside. It now works. They waived the charge.

BubblesBuddy · 07/05/2019 11:06

Yes, Miele appliances say quality. Stoves do not really add anything for example. Gaggenau and several other makes also make a house more saleable.

Nearlyadoctor · 07/05/2019 12:38

I have a Miele washing machine which is now 22 years old and has never gone wrong - husband is a farm worker so it deals with very mucky overalls plus dog beds
Dryer is new AEG - 6 months very pleased so far, would buy another Miele washing machine but couldn’t justify the price for a dryer.
Dishwasher is Bosch 5 years old no problems
Induction job and 2 ovens both AEG again 5 years old very pleased with both.

XingMing · 07/05/2019 13:22

The navy has Miele washing machines on submarines... they have to be reliable and low maintenance.

DOLLYDAYDREAMER · 07/05/2019 20:17

upgrade from bosch/neff to siemens - still same overall company but better build quality and nicer look with more functions - less expensive than miele

Gigglinghysterically · 08/05/2019 02:10

Miele wasing machine comes out best in the Which? consumer magazine.

wheresmyphone · 09/05/2019 08:28

Yes, but the key is to see which particular machine is recommended in WHICH. When I checked WHICH for the Mielie I bought it had a terrible write up.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 10/05/2019 07:55

Siemens are definitely worth looking at
