Ugly gas meter box/cupboard

Outside the back door we have a gas meter cupboard.

It’s ugly, a bit cracked in places, and tatty.

I know they are owned by the gas board but is there any ideas of what we can do to make it look better?

Replace it with something like this:

Various sizes/parts available.
Alternatively, stick a large potted plant in front of it!

if it wasn't cracked, you could just paint it.

They have to be cleaned up with white spirit and a green nylon pan scourer, then given one flowing coat of oil-based non-stick gloss with a soft bristle brush. It bonds well to plastic with no need for primer or undercoat. Plastic wastepipes can bs done the same way.

I don't know how long it lasts, some I did 30 years ago in a sheltered spot are still glossy, while others exposed to hot sun are looking a bit dull.

if it's just the door, you can buy a replacement from a meter box company. There are a few standard models. If your box is built into the wall you may need the gas supplier to take the meter out before you can fit a replacement box. I don't know what that would cost. They might fit a whole new cabinet at your expense.

"non-drip gloss" I meant

Is it a plastic one with a door on the front? I bought a replacement on eBay as mine looked awful. It was only £35.
