Are sun pipes a good idea?

I’ve heard of these but never really considered one before. My house has no window or natural light on the upstairs landing or downstairs in the hall either. Would a sun pipe installed over the stairwell make it feel brighter and more spacious? I’ve never seen one in real life so no idea if they really deliver good results. It really is the only solution I can think of but I need to sell it to DH.

We took down the ceiling above our stairwell and put in a huge roof light. It’s fantastic. Neighbour has a sun tube and it’s not very good in comparison to ours! I accept it’s a bigger job but it’s worth it.

Managed to find a picture. Two 30cm lightway tubes into a completely enclosed hallway. I remember it being lighter than this but indoor photos often look dark.

They certainly lit it up enough you would not think of turning the light on, they were under the highest part of the roof so velum not an option.

We have one in our bathroom. It's fantastic.
It makes an otherwise very dark room, light and bright. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
